Listen

A voice post in which I pimp hopefulsinner’s story He Doth Not Sleep and read to you the stanzas from Shelley’s Adonais that inspired the title.

For those of you who would like to read along, here are the stanzas that I’ll be reading for you:

Peace, peace! he is not dead, he doth not sleep—

He hath awakened from the dream of life—

’Tis we, who lost in stormy visions, keep

With phantoms an unprofitable strife,

And in mad trance, strike with our spirit’s knife

Invulnerable nothings.—We decay

Like corpses in a charnel; fear and grief

Convulse us and consume us day by day,

And cold hopes swarm like worms within our living clay.

He has outsoared the shadow of our night;

Envy and calumny and hate and pain,

And that unrest which men miscall delight,

Can touch him not and torture not again;

From the contagion of the world’s slow stain

He is secure, and now can never mourn

A heart grown cold, a head grown gray in vain;

Nor, when the spirit’s self has ceased to burn,

With sparkless ashes load an unlamented urn.

He lives, he wakes—’tis Death is dead, not he;

Mourn not for Adonais.—Thou young Dawn,

Turn all thy dew to splendour, for from thee

The spirit thou lamentest is not gone;

Ye caverns and ye forests, cease to moan!

Cease, ye faint flowers and fountains, and thou Air

Which like a mourning veil thy scarf hadst thrown

O’er the abandoned Earth, now leave it bare

Even to the joyous stars which smile on its despair!

He is made one with Nature: there is heard

His voice in all her music, from the moan

Of thunder, to the song of night’s sweet bird;

He is a presence to be felt and known

In darkness and in light, from herb and stone,

Spreading itself where’er that Power may move

Which has withdrawn his being to its own;

Which wields the world with never wearied love,

Sustains it from beneath, and kindles it above.

hopefulsinner replied to your post: Hi! Have you already played through the ME3 Ext. Cut? If not, when are you planning to do so?

rofl did you see the conversation I had with my brother regarding this that I put on twitter?

Just scanned through your Twitter and found it! In MY classes, you have to get at least a C to pass. So, still no good for Bioware. ^_~ You are too lenient! XD

Hi! Have you already played through the ME3 Ext. Cut? If not, when are you planning to do so?

I have! I picked the destroy ending, as I did the first time around. I felt that it didn’t fix any of the problems that it had at its core, but they get a gold star for trying I guess?

Heylo ! How have you been? Whatcha been up 2? Got any plans for the summer? :D

I have been doing well! How about you??

I’ve just been working—teaching a summer class is fun, but it is fast paced and leaves me without a lot of time. However, in a little over two weeks, my most favorite person in the world is coming to visit me, and we will have a crapton of shenanigans in San Francisco and then Yosemite. I can’t wait!!!!

Do you ever have Mass Effect dreams? Or if not, what was the weirdest dream you've ever had?

No Mass Effect dreams that I can remember!

But, oh weird dreams, I used to have them all the time. Now all my dreams consist of are nightmares of me forgetting to bring copies of the finals for classes or showing up on the first day without the syllabus, etc. My mind is boring now!

But one of my crazy dreams was this one that kept repeating all night: I was on this quest of sorts. It took me through a forest of glittery pink trees where pink petals drifted in the breeze. Out of each tree, a unicorn’s head had grown, and they stared at me as I walked past.

Eventually, I arrived at a castle. On the dais, there was a key nestled on a red velvet pillow. That was, apparently, what I had to retrieve. But, as I grabbed it, hands suddenly descended from the high vaulted ceilings and yanked me up into thick, draping spiderwebs with fat, bloated spiders sitting amongst them. There were the wrapped remains of other adventurers, all in a state of decay, and each one had red eyes as they stared at me.

And then the dream would start over.

I went through this several times until, right before I was going to grab the key, I remembered what had happened. And, grabbing it again, I jumped back just as the trap was triggered. I wasn’t yanked up, and the dream ended for real.

What's your favourite cleaning chore? ^_^

Vacuuming! Also dusting!

I hate cleaning any part of the bathroom though. The bathroom as a whole is my least favorite place to clean.

Jun 30, 20121 note

I have been cleaning the fuck out of my house all day. It’s been fun, actually. When I’m actually in the mood to clean, I really enjoy myself (masochistic as that sounds).

But! As I clean, I would dearly love to interact with you followers. I’ve been scarce on here as of late, and I’ve missed you. So send me asks, if you like. Let’s pretend it’s Tuesday! ^_^

Ever done something that always give you the guilts everytime?

Sometimes I’ll walk into my office and one of my kitties is all cute and sleeping on my desk chair and I have to kick him off. D: I always feel like the biggest jerk.

I'm no good at being creepy but - do you prefer tea or coffee (or neither)? and how do you drink your preferred beverage?

Tea is my default beverage. I love me a good oolong (straight), but I’ll drink others as well as long as it’s not that Lipton crap. I have standards.

Coffee, to me, is more of a treat, a social event. I get coffee with friends or sometimes, if I really need it, in the morning to give me a quick jolt. My default coffee drink is a soy latte.

How can I be creepy?

If I have to tell you how to be creepy then it’s not very creepy, is it?

Jun 26, 2012
so you can be creepy tonight and ask me questions if you want

So the obvious route today should take is that I don’t go into work and play the EC instead, right?

Waiting for laundry to get done when you just want to go to bed is the cruelest form of torture.

Kalenel, y u no write any ME3 fics????

I am, actually! I am in the process of organizing my notes and getting a story outline together. I already know what the first chapter is going to be. I have a pretty good idea of what the last chapter is going to be. I know what some milestones are going to be in the middle. I just have to connect the arc.

So it IS coming. I just need to get all the planning out of the way first. ^_^
